Clear Float Glass Import Policy 2026: DGFT Introduces ₹34,000 MIP

The Clear Float Glass Import Policy 2026 has been revised through DGFT Notification No. 29/2026-27 dated 18 August 2026.

DGFT has changed the import policy of Clear Float Glass with thickness between 4 mm and 12 mm from “Free” to “Restricted” under:

  • HS Code 70051090
  • HS Code 70052990

·        What Is the New Import Condition?

Import of the specified Clear Float Glass will remain Free if its CIF value is ₹34,000 or more per Metric Tonne.

  • CIF value ₹34,000 or above per MT: Import is Free
  • CIF value below ₹34,000 per MT: Import is Restricted

Restricted imports may require a valid DGFT Import Authorisation.

CIF value includes the cost of goods, insurance and freight up to the Indian port. Importers should verify the CIF value per MT before finalising their shipment.

·        What Should Importers Check?

Before importing Clear Float Glass, businesses should verify:

  • Correct HS classification
  • Glass thickness and product description
  • CIF value per Metric Tonne
  • Requirement for a DGFT Import Authorisation
  • Eligibility for the Advance Authorisation, EOU or SEZ exemption
  • Other applicable Customs and product compliance requirements

Importers should note that “Free” import does not mean zero Customs duty. It only means that a restricted import authorisation is generally not required under DGFT policy.
